The Verve 1991 Second Wigan Session

As 1990 ended, Verve hadn't found someone who would give them a record deal and hadn't played live in months. Richard Ashcroft called up his band mates and said "Are we in a band or what?". Verve kicked off in 1991 playing at pubs, nightclubs and being the supporting act for other bands all over the UK. They started being known for their hypnotising/spiritual sound and Ashcroft's flamboyant stage presence. Catching the eye of Miles Leonard, a scout for Hut Records. The band presented their demo tapes to Leonard, who recalls "Their demo was so much better than anything else I was hearing". Verve was signed to Hut Records in September 1991.
