Here is our long term reliability interview and review with my Buddy Alex. Here are our show notes: 1. Year- 2015 Make- Chevrolet Model Silverado Engine- 6.2L v8 Miles- bought with 56k, sold with 140k (84,000 miles in 1.5 years) 2. Mods Performance (exhaust, cold air intake, tune ex) Diablosport tuner, bought more for reliability reasons, but was left on the “hot” 93 octane tune Reliability mods (ex. oil catch cans) Tuner disabled cylinder deactivation, which will destroy the cam given enough time. Also raised idle by 150 rpm, to make the idle smoother Firmed up transmission shifts 3. Reliability overall (1-10) 7/10, it never left me stranded but had plenty of annoying issues a. Specific issues – how many miles at that time Before I owned it- Torque converter replaced. Dealer did a bad job and didn’t secure a cooler line. Which blew on me at 93k miles and I was left responsible for fixing. 80k- AC condenser failure, developed crack and would leak 100k- Direct injectors replaced, was causing misfire due to oil from PCV system. Valves also walnut blasted to remove carbon 110k- Vacuum pump failure b. Maintenance schedule – how do you maintain your vehicle? Because of the miles I was putting on it, I was doing monthly oil changes. Changed all fluid with Amsoil, did the differential and trans/transfer case changes according to factory schedule. 4. Overall likes -The power! A truck that could embarrass mustangs from a stoplight was hilarious. If I turned the traction control off in 2wd it would roast the tires no problem. -The room! The interior had plenty of room to comfortably sit 5 people. Vented/heated seats were a huge plus as well. 5. Overall dislikes THE 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION. This truck is held back by THE WORST transmission tuning I have ever witnessed from a manufacturer. It would refuse to downshift unless floored, the truck just wanted to lug everywhere. It would also clunk on upshifts and downshifts. It was so bad that it would chirp the tires from 1-2 when I was maneuvering in a parking lot. There is a current class action lawsuit against GM for these transmissions being unsafe. 6. Would you buy it again? I would, but not for the price I paid ($35k). For the amount of issues the truck had and how it drove overall it is a $25,000 truck. If I was the original owner who paid $45-50k for it, id be pissed. The 2014-2015 style for the silverados is one of the best looking modern classics I have seen though, it is a great tribute to the c10 stylistically.
