Gameplay for the thief A few facts about the Khajiit: The Khajiit are a race of anthropomorphic cats native to Elsweyr— the southern province of Tamriel. According to myths, in ancient times they were desert spirits, but were transformed by the goddess Azura. She gave them a connection with the moons Masser and Secunda, and since then, Khajiit's appearance has been determined by the phases of the luminaries at the time of his birth. The family and clan play a key role in society. Almost every Khajiit in Elsweyr belongs to a particular clan, which influences his upbringing, career, and even religious rituals. Clans may specialize in certain crafts, trade, warfare, or magic. The Khajiit language, Ta'agra, is used in everyday life, but in interaction with other peoples it is often inferior to Tamrielic, the common language. Ta'agra is characterized by poetry, numerous metaphors and a strong connection with nature. Khajiit respect their ancestors and clan memory. Funeral rites vary: nomadic tribes often burn bodies and send ashes to the wind, while urban ones bury the dead in sandy mausoleums. It is believed that the ancestor's spirit can stay close and help the clan. Among the customs, there are rituals of growing up associated with the first full moon after maturity, and hunting trials in which Khajiit prove strength and dexterity. Another important tradition is the refusal to lie in front of a clan elder.: It is believed that deception destroys the lunar path. Moon sugar and the drug scuma derived from it are banned in all regions except Elsweyr, where this stuff is produced. Khajiit can see in the dark, like most wild cats. Despite the stereotypes, not all Khajiit are thieves. Many become priests, merchants, scientists, and even imperial officials. In battle, Khajiit flatten their ears back and have a growling expression on their face, just like real cats. Khajiit, like many real cat species, have thorns on their penises. The nominal head of the Khajiit religion is a unique form of Khajiit known as the Mane. The Khajiit legend claims that only one mane can live at a time, and its birth is caused by the birth of a newborn Khajiit when the two moons are fully aligned in the sky.
