Introducing recommended spots in Toyohashi City, Aichi, Japan. This time we visited two retro and nostalgic places. First we visited "Retro Goods Natsukashiya", followed by "kaginoya" and "KORONO COFFEE SHOP". "Natsukashiya" is a general store located in a place that exudes a Showa Retro feel, lined with products that will evoke memories of the past. "Kaginoya" is a shaved ice shop that is only open in the summer inside "KORONO COFFEE SHOP". In the video you can see the shaved ice as well as cafe time and breakfast time at "KORONO COFFEE SHOP". "Retro Goods Natsukashiya" is a general store located in the "Suijo Building"(*) near Toyohashi Station. As the name of the store suggests (In Japanese, "natsukashi" means nostalgic.), they stock a variety of Showa-era Retro products that will make you feel nostalgic. They also sell unique products such as figurines of Super Sentai Heroes, character goods, printed glass that is becoming popular again, and Mie Prefecture's iconic drink "Smack." You might find a treasure that's just right for you. (*) The "Suijo Building" is a group of buildings stretching about 800 meters and constructed on top of the Muro Irrigation Canal, which was turned into an underground channel. They are a symbolic place in the history of Toyohashi. The unique and distinctive space created by the Showa-era retro buildings, which have made use of aging to their advantage, is what makes them so appealing to many locals, and they love this view. Of the "Suijo building", the one we visited this time was the "Ote Building" (built in 1967). "KORONO COFFEE SHOP" is a coffee shop that perfectly fits the description "neo-retro." The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a retro coffee shop. The pancakes made with domestically grown glutinous barley are a popular item on the menu. The limited edition drinks are also recommended. The retro interior and the soft light shining through the plants by the windows create a relaxing atmosphere. In the summer, "kaginoya", a shaved ice specialty shop, will open inside the shop. The menu will change frequently, so if there's a particular flavor you're looking for, be sure to come early!
