Vector Addition, Graphical and Analytical Methods

This video shows how to add two vectors using graphical and analytical methods. The graphical method gives an approximate result. The analytical method requires the computation of X and Y components. The net X and Y components are computed and used as the short sides of a right triangle. The Pythagorean Theorem is used to calculate the magnitude of the result vector. Inverse tangent is used to compute the angle of the vector. The graphical addition sketch is examined to see if the calculated angle needs to be adjusted by 180 degrees since the inverse tangent only returns angles between -90 and +90 degrees.
