The Wild West Coast of NZ in a Campervan!

Subscribe to Global Travel Stories    / @globaltravelstories   and join the adventures around the globe! The first part of our epic campervan series encompassing the whole of New Zealand in 2 months. This episode follows us up the beautifully chaotic Wild West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. The video is intentionally quite elaborate to give a complete understanding of the area and our journey. For your convenience this has been broken up into daily chapters. If time doesn't allow to watch the whole thing in one viewing then you can watch chapter by chapter and return at any point. My hope is that the content is entertaining enough to watch in a single sitting. Enjoy! Chapters: Introduction 0:00 Day 1: Queenstown - Lake Hawea 01:21 Passing the Crown Range via Wanaka to a pristine campsite at the far end of Lake Hawea. Surrounded by blue waters and epic mountain peaks we are greeting by newborn spring calves and lamb. Day 2: Lake Hawea - Fox Glacier 09:08 Heading to the west coast via the Haast pass we stop along the way at the beautiful Blue Pools, followed by Fantail falls and the epic Thunder Creek Falls. Our afternoon is spent exploring the histprical goldmining region of our campsite at Gillespies Beach near Fox Glacier. Day 3: Fox Glacier - Franz Josef Glacier 18:45 After being woken by 2 cheeky Kea's (Alpine Parrots) we take a further inspection of some gold mining relics we head out to Lake Mattheson to take in an amazing perspective of Mt Cook from the lake. Afterwards we head to Franz Josef and embark on an epic 6hr hike to the Roberts Point Lookout. Passing countless waterfalls and crossing extremely high and long suspension bridges (including NZ's longest) to reach the best perspective of the amazing Franz Josef Glacier. Day 4: Franz Josef Glacier - Punakaiki 34:57 We start off with a stop at Hokatika gorge. With newly built bridges and bordwalks by the DOC it is a unique way to take in the wonderous features of the gorge. Afterwards we head to Hokatika, home of the famous Pouanamu or Greenstone and search for our very own Greenstone amongst it's shores. We make our way up to a Freedom Campsite outside of Punakaiki where we are greated by some feathery friends. Day 5: Punakai - Murcheson 47:53 After being awoken by the local birdlife we hit the road to the Pancake Rocks, but not without some delicious pancakes first. We check out these unique geologcal structures and explore some nearby caves before taking a walk on the Pororari River. Heading north we stop at Cape Foulwind for a hike out to the lighthouse and viewing a New Zealand Fur Seal Colony before saying goodbye to the West Coast and travelling inland to the small mountain village of Murchison.
