In this video session, we’ll explore one of the fundamental elements in structural mechanics: bars and trusses. A bar is a structural element primarily designed to resist axial forces, meaning tension or compression along its length. Bars are commonly found in applications such as tie rods, shafts, and bridge components that carry loads directly along their axis. On the other hand, trusses are assemblies of bars or rods arranged in a geometric pattern to form a rigid structure. They efficiently transfer loads through axial forces while minimizing bending or shear, making them ideal for use in bridges, roof structures, towers, and even lightweight aerospace and automotive frames. In this tutorial, we’ll focus on modeling a truss element in Abaqus, starting from defining material properties and applying loads to interpreting results.
