Al Hafeedh is the name that Allah chose to indicate His all-encompassing protection and preservation of all of creation. Al Hafeedh is the one who takes care of everyone and is called upon when a person feels in danger. When we see the difficulties in our own lives or around the world, it may be easy to fall into a contentious spiritual state when thinking about Allah's hifdh - protection - of the world. But a story of how Prophet Yaqub (as) was able to patiently bear with the pain of losing Yusuf (as), and in referencing that pain, Yaqub then specifically mentions that Allah is the best of protectors (khayrun haafidhaa) in response to the pain of loss he has endured. This is the spiritual state that remembering the name Al Hafeedh puts the heart of the believer into: we know that while we can experience difficulty, the protection of Al Hafeedh is constant.
