This is after principal magistrate Karen Njalale rejected an application by state counsel to have the charges facing the students deferred for two weeks to allow the office of regional director of public prosecution to peruse the files and make a decision on the same. The students from Kanjuri high most of them underage were charged that on October 28 they destroyed a transformer worthy 1.1milion property of the school. Others faced charges of being in possession of petrol and match box while two of them were charged with being in possession of a roll of bhang. As for five students from Kiarithanini they were charged that on October 29 they were found in possesion of two jerrycan of petrol with the aim of comminuting a felony namely arson . All the students who pleaded not guilty were released on free bond with their parents and guardians directed to deposit a copy of identity cards and mobile number and produce them in December when their cases will be heard. Earlier state counsel Mary Kang'ethe had asked the court to defer charging the students for two weeks and release them to their parents since the regional director of public prosecution had recalled the files . However in her ruling Njalale declined saying that following escalation of students violence being witnessed in the county it's time for decisive action to put to a stop to the same .
