Exploring a tiny, yet huge new world with beautiful music! Sheet Music: https://bit.ly/3kdvG4V I was limited on time for this cover due to being away at a camp for about 2 1/2 days this week, so I chose to create something a bit more minimal and different than what I usually do. I was going for a structured rubato sort of thing with tenor saxophone and piano featured. It ended up sounding a bit more like classical saxophone, which I have no problem with. I stayed close to the original tune for the most part, with a few minor alterations here and there. Recording the upright piano was a new challenge for me that turned out to be a lot of fun. I decided not to use my usual piano VST and go for something with a little more of an organic sound to it, so I went with my own upright piano, which I have not recorded for YouTube in a VERY long time. Surprisingly, the mics I used to record the piano worked out very well, placing the SM57 and the Bluebird beneath the piano captured the highs and lows very well, and I blended them together with some simple panning and EQ. For the saxophone recording, I tried using the Cascade Fathead as a room mic, but my living room does not have the greatest of sounds despite its high ceiling, and I was much more comfortable with using artificial reverb, so that's what I went with. The arrangement that I chose is supposed to reflect the progression of the day within a Pikmin game. Opening with the piano reflected the calm atmosphere of the morning, then going into a more involved piano part with 16th notes and strong bass hits reflected the work and battles of the midday. I chose to end with a snippet from the Night Comes tune from the same game to add some extra depth to the arrangement, and to really bring out the meaning of the piece that I intended.
