✨ 🎵 A Xinyao narrative classic that captures Singapore’s transformation through the lens of one ordinary family. English Description “Lao Zhang’s Three Daughters” is one of the most significant narrative works in Singapore’s Xinyao heritage. Written and composed by Liang Wern Fook and first performed in 1988 by Liang, Eric Moo (Wu Qixian), and Pan Ying, this rendition is a cover of the original. In this version, all lyrical lines belonging to the three daughters are performed entirely by female vocals—an intentional refinement that differs from the original, where these lines were only partially sung by female voices. The song captures Singapore’s rapid transformation from the 1960s to the 1980s by following the very different life choices of Lao Zhang’s three daughters. The eldest reflects traditional values and filial duty; the second embodies modernity, independence, and Western influence; the youngest represents a more balanced and adaptive contemporary generation. Together, their stories form a vivid social portrait that has become central to Xinyao’s cultural legacy. This piece continues to inspire new interpretations across generations, with each cover adding renewed emotional texture to this deeply Singaporean family narrative. #mandarinmusic #singaporemusic #nostalgicmusic #storytelling #folkballad #chinesemusic #culturalheritage #musicfromtheheart #mandarinpop #acousticfolk #coverversion #song #daughter #familylove #singaporemusic
