The striking gorge of this magnificent park is considered to be one of the most adored nature sites in all of Kyrgyzstan. The words ‘ala archa’ are used to refer to the juniper trees that dot the canyon in every single direction. Traditionally, the people of Kyrgyz use this specific kind of tree to ward off evil spirits, as well as protect their hopes. In the national park, the junipers act as a backdrop for numerous outdoor adventure activities, which can be undertaken at any time of the year. These include trekking, skiing, and hiking. Things to do in Ala Archa National Park Ready to visit this wonderful park? Then hail a taxi or rent a ride and get going for that 30-minute drive to Ala Archa National Park. Hike to the Ak Sai Waterfall Once you reach the Alpger hotel, you will have two trails to choose from. The same trail that brought you to the Ak Sai waterfall, will take you further ahead towards the glacier, as well as Ratzek hut. You can choose to stay the night at the hut, because the hike may take up to an entire day. The journey from the water to the Ak Sai glacier is a steep one, as you have to hike from a height of 2,800 meters to 3,300 meters. But the entire experience of 3 to 4 hours is worth it. All you need to do is follow the blue and white trail marks and voila! There is the mesmerizing Ak Sai glacier sitting in front of you. Should you decide to camp at the Ratzek hut, you will need to take along your camping gear, and enough food and water supplies to last for 2 days. Despite the availability of bunk beds at the hut, you will still need your sleeping bag. Hike the River Trail of Ala Archa The river trail of Ala Archa is also known as its valley trail. It is well-known for being the easiest hike that you can take, while at the Ala Archa National Park. The entire journey will take you only an hour since the distance you need to cover is only 2 kilometers. If you continue further and walk for another 8 kilometers, you will arrive at a deserted Soviet ski resort and a couple of glaciers. The trail itself and everything up here grant you views that you absolutely cannot miss. Places to Eat in Ala Archa National Park You can get a taste of the delicious local cuisine at the Alplager. There are also various shops here and there that allow you to buy water and snacks for the trails. You will also see locals here having extensive barbecue picnics that may make your mouth water. You can have your own little barbecue, or stock up on food when you leave Bishkek before you hit the trails. Places to Sleep in Ala Archa National Park While you are in the national park, you have two primary options that you can avail yourself of to sleep. You can either go to the Ala Archa hotel or the Alplager hotel. Some visitors often tend to spend the night in Bishkek but, staying at one of these hotels guarantees you an early start to your hike in the morning. On the other hand, if you want to spend the night at the foot of the Ak Sai glacier, you can hike to the Ratzek hut before nightfall. The hut is basic but provides you with the comfort and coziness that you require. In addition, you are going to wake up to marvelous views! The Best Time to Visit Ala Archa National Park You can visit the Ala Archa National Park during autumn or spring, especially if you are thinking about going for hikes to the river trail or the waterfall. During autumn, the colors of fall will provide you with pleasant views, whereas spring will come with blooming wildflowers. Now you know all about this wonderful park and all that it has to offer.
