Snakeoil, iniciada em 2011 pelo saxofonista na busca por uma instrumentação incomum, agrega um conjunto de jovens músicos seguindo a regra de Berne em recrutar “o tipo de músicos que nunca seria primeira escolha”, “que não obedecem muito bem a ordens ou que não se limitam às coisas óbvias”, explicou à revista Jazz Times. Desde a estreia pela ECM que o quarteto Snakeoil se tornou uma das mais celebradas formações do jazz atual – ampliado para quinteto com a entrada do guitarrista Ryan Ferreira –, uma reunião explosiva de almas indomáveis.
