In myopic eyes and post-vitrectomy eyes, we can get an overly deep anterior chamber during cataract surgery. The infusion pressure from the phaco probe or I/A probe will push the iris against the anterior lens capsule and create a seal. Now that there is less pressure in the vitreous cavity and posterior chamber, this causes the anterior chamber to become overly deep. The solution is to equilibrate this pressure gradient by briefly lifting or tenting up the iris. This equalizes the pressure between the anterior chamber and posterior chamber and the anterior segment returns to a normal configuration.
