There's only one difficulty at Al Johnson’s Swedish Butik — deciding what to take home! The combination of imported and Scandinavian-themed products (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Finland) with fresh foods, clothing, jewelry, books and interior design items creates an unusually seductive shopping experience. The Butik started out in a little four-room house next to the restaurant in the 1960s. When Al’s was remodeled in 1973, it was expanded to include both Butik space and a big lobby. By 1974, everything was under one roof. For a time, the Butik had a second location in a former furniture store across the street. Al sold that building to the Village of Sister Bay as part of a community plan to return the local waterfront to public use. The result, the beautiful Sister Bay waterfront, speaks for itself! The Butik's most popular items today? Anything related to goats. After that, Scandinavian clogs. Then books, lots of books. The familiar orange Dala horses (in other colors, too) are very popular, as well as Al's branded fresh foods: Al's Swedish Pancake Mix, Wild Organic Lingonberries, Swedish Jams (to date, Raspberry and Strawberry), plus Pickled Herring and Beets, and fresh-baked Limpa Bread. Don't miss it during your trip to Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik in Sister Bay, Wisconsin!
