Freddie Mercury's Statue, Montreux and the Queen Studio Experience

All songs used are linked below at iTunes (non-affiliate links). I have been a Queen fan since the mid to late 1970's as a 9 or 10 year old boy (can't remember exactly...too long ago). My first Queen albums (cassettes) were "A Night at the Opera" and "News of the World", both superb albums with a totally diverse mix of tempo's, styles, lyrics and "rockishness". Both albums include a selection of Queens' classic tracks, some of which have now become rock anthems that are known, loved and sung by many people worldwide. I am also a huge Deep Purple/Ian Gillan fan and saw them live fairly recently at the O2 in London. One of my favourite Deep Purple songs is "Smoke on the Water" due to the story it tells of their exploits in Montreux when a Frank Zappa fan burned down the Casino during a gig. Edit September 2018: Earlier this year I was lucky enough to work of a project that involved a certain Mr Ian Gillan. During the shoot, I was even luckier to have a Dorset country pub lunch with him. What a nice, intelligent and friendly chap he is with a shedload of cool stories! Mr Universe was the first album I ever bought as a young teenager so to meet my rock hero was suuuperb! It has been on my bucket list for a long time to visit Montreux to see, photograph and film the Casino, Freddie's statue, the Queen Studio Experience, the tribute wall, the mountains and Montreux itself...and I wasn't disappointed. If you are a Queen fan at any level, I would highly recommend that you make the trip to Switzerland (which is beautiful in its own right) and stay in Montreux for a few days. Try to coincide your stay with one or two of the many events that happen throughout the year as the place really comes alive! If you plan to put something on Freddie's statue (my daughter made a bracelet for him which I put on his microphone on the last day), please be aware that the Swiss are a proud and tidy nation and all flowers, trinkets and memorabilia will be removed at some point. I have told my family that "when my time comes", I want my ashes scattered on Lake Geneva as this has to be one of the most tranquil, peaceful and beautiful places I have ever been to...
