NPD: I’m Not Disposable Healing from psychological violence is a massive undertaking so I haven’t even tried to be in a serious relationship since the brunt of the attack on me over 6 years ago. But I’m starting to think I might be ready. Some men have crossed my path recently who have expressed interest, but who haven’t demonstrated genuine excitement at the opportunity and seem to be weighing other options. There was a time when I would have been so intoxicated by the attention. In my past when they didn’t jump in with both feet I would have searched for reasons why, in an effort to justify my decision to keep pursuing them. “Oh I wasn’t looking that cute the day we met.” “I didn’t immediately and fully comply with his advances and he felt rejected.” “He’s coming out of a difficult situation.” None of this matters. It can all be true but none of this means I should continue to give someone my time. If this is true and is enough to get someone to hold back, then it’s a mismatch. It’s either the wrong person or the wrong timing. I’ve been the wrong person or a person at the wrong time. I’ve been non responsive to a good quality person who pursued me. This isn’t about someone being the bad guy. But if I’m ready to give someone my everything, he’s going to see in me what I see in me. He will respond when I reach out and he will not miss an opportunity to see me…even if he has to suggest an alternate day because he’s busy.
