This fireside chat is an exploration of Philadelphia and New Orleans, two great American cities celebrated for their rich culture and heritage - with a focus on jazz music. There exist parallels in terms of musical lineage, the recognition of music masters and elders, the philosophies of education, the communal atmosphere, the fellowship between musicians, international reputation, and cuisine. Although there are many parallels, each place has its own distinctive and unique qualities that will be discussed in this vlog. Qualitative research was conducted by gathering various perspectives through interviews with members of the jazz network, participation within the community, and observation of the traditions. After understanding these parallels, one should hold both New Orleans and Philly high in high regard, and take great pride in the city. 00:00 Welcome 00:31 What is Second Line Bebop 1:09 Historical Parallels 2:49 Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, and Regional Identity 4:55 Combined Musical Alliances 5:18 Educational Institutions 6:47 Mardi Gras & Mummers 7:54 Spirituality 9:02 Tourism and Other Styles of Music 10:55 The Mainstream 12:08 Food and Cuisine 12:53 Conclusions Executive Producer - Fareed Simpson -Hankins Director and Editor - Fareed Simpson -Hankins Videography - Mesale Toggia Supplementary footage - Fareed Simpson, Mike Gialloreto, Jordan Kent, Joan Hankins Music Mixed and Mastered by Patrick L.
