Mangrove playing 'I iz ah Trini' at the Panorama 2011 competition on 27th August 2011 in London. For the past couple of years - actually, three - that I have afforded the rare 'luxury' of basking in the crowd watching the UK national Steel Pan competition dubbed 'Panorama' it is evident that Mangrove has quickly transcended remarkable heights to emerge as UK's number one steel band! Their confident display of tight harmonies and the infections agility of some of the players in contrast to the subtle direction of the band leader ('didn't catch his name, sorry), gave Mangrove an undeniable edge as steel pan barons of 2011!. Although the judges may have been nudged by the announcer's introduction of the Mangrove as the 'people's choice' even before they started playing, nevertheless, Mangrove has successfully cemented its place as leaders at the helm of steel pan music in the UK. Outstanding performance Mangrove! That Security Lady who seriously made sure I stay planted behind those blooming-blinding-blocking tree leaves ... how about a pint!? Grrr.
