Rare footage: Putin hears front line reports from Russian soldiers

Russian President Vladimir Putin has thanked Russian troops after military commanders told him their forces had taken full control of the town of Siversk in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine’s military, however, denies the claim and says its forces remain in control of the area. Russian commanders said the capture of Siversk marked a step toward advancing on Sloviansk, one of the largest cities in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. They told Putin that Ukrainian forces had heavily fortified the town, but claimed Russian troops overcame the defences by cutting supply routes, outflanking positions and carrying out targeted assaults. Ukraine’s Operation Task Force East said Siversk remains under Ukrainian control, adding that Russian troops are attempting to enter the town in small groups but are being repelled. The task force also said Ukrainian forces continue to hold parts of Pokrovsk, another key location in Donetsk, where Kyiv reports intense fighting and repeated Russian assault attempts. #Ukraine #Russia #Putin
