Bruce Joel Rubin won an Academy Award for his original screenplay, Ghost. The film was also nominated for best picture. Rubin’s additional writing credits include Brainstorm, Deadly Friend, Jacob’s Ladder, Deceived, My Life (which he also directed), Deep Impact, Stuart Little 2, The Last Mimzy and The Time Traveler’s Wife. Rubin also wrote the book and lyrics for Ghost, The Musical, which opened in London in 2011, on Broadway in 2012 and is still playing around the world. Rubin graduated New York University in 1965 where he majored in motion picture production and direction. He was an assistant film editor at NBC news in the mid-sixties and hitch-hiked around the world in 1966-67, an experience which he describes as “very formative.” He was also curator of film at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York where he helped establish a program called The New American Filmmakers Series, a precursor to Sundance and an important launching pad for independent filmmakers in the early 70’s. In addition to his film career, Rubin has been a student and teacher of meditation for the past forty years. Moderated by Matthew Irvine, SCA Faculty
