Do you know what makes an Adventitial bursa different from the native bursae in the body? ❗️An adventitial bursa is not permanent, whereas the native bursae throughout the body are always present even when they are not visible on ultrasound❗️ 💡Bursae will only be visible on ultrasound when there is fluid is present within them. An adventitial bursa is an acquired fluid collection that forms between the bone surface and the overlying soft tissues. It is caused by environmental forces, such as friction and excessive pressure. It is most commonly found superficial to the plantar surface of the metatarsal heads.
