This session takes you on a deep dive into open science policymaking, featuring insights from research funders. Joined by representatives from two forward-thinking funding organizations: the Focused Ultrasound Foundation (https://bit.ly/FusFoundation) and Stiftelsen Dam (https://bit.ly/StiftelsenDam). These organizations shared their experiences to develop, implement, and manage policies that enhance the openness and transparency of the research projects they support, aligning with their core organizational missions and values. COS views open science policymaking as crucial to its theory of change, with the adoption of open science practices being a key component. However, requirements are just one aspect of effective policymaking. This session is designed for researchers, institutional administrators, policymakers, and fellow funding organizations seeking to understand the policy decisions that drive open science. We explored how funders create these mandates and, at the same time, foster the necessary culture change by supporting the social and technical infrastructures that enable researchers to meet funder expectations. This webinar is part of COS’s ongoing campaign (https://bit.ly/Blog-TopGuidelines) to demonstrate implementations of our Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) guidelines (https://bit.ly/Top-Guidelines), grounding our policy framework in real-world examples. If you have feedback, implementation stories, or lessons learned from working with TOP, get in touch with us at top@cos.io.
