It was the V-Rod, a wild departure from the Sportsters, Dynas, Softails, and touring bikes of the day. Nestled into the frame was a 1,130cc liquid-cooled Revolution V-twin producing 115 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torque. The whole package tipped the scales at around 615 lbs, not much more than an XL1200C of the day. This time, the engineering partnership stuck. The V-Rod was just the beginning of a VRSC family that ran from 2002 to 2017. In 2008, H-D bored the Revolution engine to 1,247cc. At that point, output rose to 123 horsepower and 86 lb-ft of torque. While Harley-Davidson discontinued the VRSC in 2017, the VRSC family had grown to include models like the V-Rod Muscle, Night Rod, and the drag-strip-ready, 170-horsepower “Destroyer.”
