My next visit, exploring the branchlines of the Great Western Railway takes me to Exeter, where three scenic lines begin, my first line, the Avocet Line runs 11.25 miles from Exeter St Davids, to Exeter Central and onto Exmouth, running alongside the Exe Estuary as the line passes through the towns and villages of Devon. We begin travelling towards Exmouth, looking out the left hand side in the direction of travel, which sadly caught a lot of the sun, branching off from the East Devon Line at Exmouth Junction with excellent views over the countryside as we head towards Exmouth, following on from a brief visit to the stunning seaside resort (well worth a few hours visit) we board a service back towards Exeter, this time sat on the opposite side affording spectacular views over the Exe Estuary. Eventually we rejoin the East Devon line for the final stretch to Exeter Central, and Exeter St Davids.
