This is a (Not perfect) playthrough of the band Discipline's masterpiece "Canto IV" (Limbo) This song appears on Discipline's second album "Unfolded Like Staircase." Always a crowd favorite and regarded by many in the progressive rock community, to be top of their lists of epic prog songs. As the bass player in TILES and from the Detroit area, we have known Discipline and the members for many, many years. As a matter of fact, Discipline played with us, at our first show as TILES. At that show, they played this very song. They hadn't even recorded it yet. The crowd, and us, loved it, and their show. Mathew Kennedy's bass tone and playing on this is smooth, technical, groovy and spot on. A real beast of a song. Mathew Kennedy's bass line is relentless throughout. It runs the gamut. A real workout. Once I learned the song, and decided to make a video, I said I was only going to play three times and see what happens. I didn't play it three times. I played it twice. Which is this version here. I wish the mix was better between the song and the bass. Next time I will have the song as a separate track. On this, I played through my amp, and had the music through a sound system. It is not perfect. There are a couple of flubbed notes here and there, but I did my best. Matthew Parmenter wrote an absolute gem with this. Both musically and lyrically. Jon Preston Bouda's guitar is fantastic throughout, and Paul Dzendzel's drumming is perfect. I was just happy to have made it through to the end. Lol! If you have never heard any of Discipline's music, go now and check them out. You will not be disappointed. Discipline has a new record coming out in August. Be sure to keep an eye out for it. It is titled "Breadcrumbs." Disclosures of my bass playing mortality and ineptness: ** At 4:34 I play a C. Oops...It was supposed to be a C# ** At 5:48 it took a couple times around the pattern to fall into the groove. ** At 7:43 I think Matthew Kennedy plays a quarter note octave groove in this section. I wasn't sure, so I came up with what is there. When rehearsing it, I play it much tighter than I did here. ** At 9:48 I play an A natural in that run. It was supposed to be a Bb. You will notice the next time around I play the correct note. Another oopsie. ** At 13:20 I got a little a head during the long F run. There may be a couple of other "Lose" moments, but I think that covers the bulk of them.
