After the sunny lull of the first few days, the storm finally arrived in Niseko, and it did not disappoint. This ended up being one of the deepest days of my life. The energy in the village shifted overnight. The visibility dropped to zero and the snow started falling so fast it felt like the mountain was resetting every ten minutes. It was a total whiteout—no horizon, no perspective, just the sound of light powder billowing over your head. Day 3 was all about the "White Room." We were literally skiing blind, throwing slashes and then waiting for the spray to clear just so we could see the next tree. It was a complete sensory overload. We spent the day navigating the trees, trying to stay oriented in the fog, and getting absolutely buried on every single turn. This is exactly what you picture when you think about Japan. It was easily some of the deepest snow I’ve ever skied, and while the lack of visibility made it a challenge, the quality of the "Japow" lived up to every bit of the hype. Sometimes you have to wait for the storm to hit to see a place for what it truly is. This was the day Niseko showed its teeth. Stay tuned for next week for even deeper skiing.
