SpaceX announced Brilliant Design Changes on Starship Grid Fins shocked NASA engineers... === (intro)0:00 (The Grid Fins)0:32 (SpaceX's 3-Fins Secret) (Starship v3 update) === #alphatech #techalpha #spacex #elonmusk #nasa === SpaceX announced Brilliant Design Changes on Starship Grid Fins shocked NASA engineers... SpaceX has just ignited a firestorm of debate after revealing its brand new grid fins design. The number of grid fins on Super Heavy Block 3 is being cut from four down to just three. But what’s really stirring the pot? It’s the fact that all three fins are now asymmetrically placed. Some people say this could mess with the rocket’s aerodynamics, while others think it might actually help stabilize the booster. So, what’s the real story behind this bold new design? Let’s break it down, in today’s episode of Alpha Tech. SpaceX announced Brilliant Design Changes on Starship Grid Fins shocked NASA engineers... Just a few weeks ago, during a Mars presentation, Elon Musk shared quite a lot about the latest versions of Starship and Super Heavy. But the thing that really caught everyone’s attention was the booster’s appearance. It’s now equipped with a brand-new hot staging ring, and Musk mentioned that the struts on this ring help the exhaust gases escape more easily during the hot staging process. And if you look closely, right below the hot staging ring, you’ll notice another big change: there are only three grid fins now instead of four, and they’re placed asymmetrically at 90, 90, and 180 degrees. However, Musk didn’t give any explanation at all about this change, and that’s what’s got people talking. Will it actually work well? Or could it mess with the booster’s performance somehow? To understand what’s really going on, let’s back up for a second and talk about how these grid fins actually work. At first glance, they might look like oversized metal waffles stuck to the rocket. But they’re way more important than they look. SpaceX announced Brilliant Design Changes on Starship Grid Fins shocked NASA engineers... These grid fins are what help steer and stabilize the booster during its high-speed fall back to Earth. Inside, a hydraulic actuation system, powered by high-pressure fluid pumps, drives precise rotations of the fins, allowing them to tilt and adjust the rocket’s trajectory. They don’t work like traditional airbrakes. Instead, they focus on control and stability, using fin rotation to guide the Super Heavy booster to a pinpoint landing. When they’re lined up with the wind, there’s barely any drag. But the moment they start tilting? That’s when they bite into the air, creating aerodynamic torque that lets the booster twist, turn, and stay on course. Each fin rotates around a single axis, but it’s not about what they do alone. It’s how they move together that really gives the rocket full control. To put it simply, in the current versions of Super Heavy, the booster is equipped with four grid fins, arranged in an alternating pattern of 120 and 60 degrees around the top of the booster. This symmetrical layout allows for effective and relatively simple control over the two main axes of motion: pitch, tilting up and down, and yaw, turning left and right. === Subcribe Alpha Tech:    / @alphatech4966   ===
