As we are now seeing more and more adults getting chicken pox, the instance of chicken pox scar is on the rise. Let us look at how we have to tackle this chicken pox scars. Initially if you have got in chicken pox it is very important that you prevent the scars from developing at all. However the most important part of the chicken pox scar itself is that the depression which is caused by thee scar and this depressed scar is like actually having a structural abnormality in your skin. Its like having a hole in the wall. It is not going to get better by you know using a cream. You have to plan to do a surgical technique. Usually I recommend that if the scar is less than 0.5 mm, it can be excised primarily and a small stitch can be done. It leaves a very tiny linear scar. The other option is to do a laser skin rejuvenation where we use lasers to make the skin of the scar much better. But what I would say is that if you never had chicken pox, please plan to get vaccinated for chicken pox and this way you will primarily fix the scar. Whatever treatment we do for the scar it is going to be improved by maybe a matter of 50 – 60% depending on the type of what method we use. So to prevent the scar is always a better option.
