ERN eUROGEN webinar 64: Primary Obstructive Megaureter: success and failure after balloon dilatation

This webinar was presented at 22 February 2023 by Dr. Sonia Pérez-Bertólez and Dr. Oriol Martín-Solé, both consultant at the department of Pediatric Urology at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona, Spain. It is aimed at healthcare professionals. High-pressure balloon dilatation (HPBD) of the ureterovesical junction with JJ stent placement is a first-line minimally invasive alternative for the surgical treatment of primary obstructive megaureter (POM) instead of ureteral reimplantation or cutaneous ureterostomy. In this webinar we will review the endoscopic technique step by step, its indications and the results of endoscopic treatment of primary obstructive megaureter, used since 2007 in our center as the first treatment option. Reviewing the more than 50 patients treated in our center since 2007 until now, with a long follow-up in most of them, we will expose the main risk factors for treatment failure and need for reimplantation after endoscopic treatment.
