Maria Bildea was born in Bucharest, Romania. She began her musical studies at the "George Enescu" Music High School where she received her first harp lessons with Prof. Ioana Brustur and piano lessons with Prof. Violeta Dinescu. Continuing her music education at the National University of Music in Bucharest, she studied harp with Prof. Ion- Ivan Roncea and chamber music and orchestra with Prof. Dr. Dorel Pascu. She also studied with Prof. Liana Pasqualli. After her dedut recital at the age of 12 she successfully entered national competitions in Romania in which she often won first prizes. At 18 she launched her solo career concertizing with the most prominent orchestras in Romania, further taking part in international harp competitions in Tel- Aviv, Israel and Bloomington, USA, where she received the titel of "Outstanding Talent" and was presented with her first grand concert harp, a gift from Deane Sherman. Having been invited to Greece by Manos Hadjidakis, she travelled to Athens where she not only performed successfully as soloist and chamber music artist but also founded the first class of harp at the "Athenaeum Concervatorium" in Athens and the State Concervatory in Thessaloniki. Maria Bildea has often been guest soloist with well-known orchestras such as the "Camerata Friends of Music", the State Orchestra of Athens, the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, the "Orchistra ton Chromaton" and the "Patras Soloists". During the course of her career she has already worked together with a long list of renowned musical personalities including Sir Neville Marriner, Michel Plasson, Sally Sondesky, Alexandre Dumay, Alexandre Myrat, Vangelis, Vasso Papandoniou, Ion- Ivan Roncea, Patrick Galois, Horia Andreescu and Konstantinos Karydes. Maria Bildea has often performed for radio and television broadcasts in Greece and Romania. Her repertoire includes works ranging from pre-classical to 21st century contemporary music. She has premiered many new works dedicated to her by composers such as Theodore Antoniu, Giorgos Chatzimichelakis and Dan Dediu. For over 20 years Maria Bildea has been solo harpist of the National Radio- Symphony Orchestra of Athens. With the harp quartet "Aeolian Harps", which she founded, she performs a repertoire of traditional Greek music. Maria Bildea plays a Horngacher "Grand Concert Harp".
