Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori has been convicted of murder and kidnapping in connection to death squad activities that took place during his autocratic 10-year reign. NAT SOUND Conviction in Spanish Fujimori was calm, waving to friends and writing in a notebook as a special tribunal ruled there was no question he authorized the creation of the unit. Which killed at least 50 people during a 15 month period. The 70-year-old was then sentenced to 25 years in prison. Fujimori remains popular in Peru for rescuing the country from the brink of economic collapse back in the early 90s, and as such there was a heavy military presence in case any rioting broke out.
