Released under investigation came into force in April 2017 with an aim of bringing a change to the way in which the police deal with a suspect who has been arrested and further investigation is required. It is used as an alternative to keeping a suspect on pre-charge bail with conditions for a long period of time. Unfortunately unlike pre-charge bail there is no limit to the time the police can take to complete their investigations.
