Welcome to a brand new series where I hit the highways and byways of this wonderful region and tell the tale of six different Writers of West Anglia. All the writers in this series have a connection to West Anglia and I kick off with a big name in George Orwell. He was probably on your school syllabus. Come with me to the village of Wallington in North Hertfordshire where Orwell spent some of the happiest years of his life. I take a look at his old house, the fields he used to wander in for inspiration and Manor Farm which was the model for Manor Farm in his smash hit book Animal Farm.
