Comparison of Hybrid buses in London. ----- Wrightbus Electrocity Enova ----- These are very nice and make an interesting sound. There used to be 5 of these on the 129 route from the Dome to Greenwich. They have now moved to the other side of London on the R70 route from Hampton to Richmond. Plus there is also one on the 360 route, but I couldn't find it. ----- Wrightbus Electrocity Siemens ----- These are similar but have Siemens hybrid system, and don't sound as good. There are 12 of them on route 360, from Elephant to Kensington. Plus 1 on route 24. ----- Optare Solo SR Siemens ----- There is only one of these, it also runs on route 360, and its hard to find. It also used the Siemens hybrid system (so it makes the same sound, but is clearer sounding than the wrightbus). ----- Wrightbus Gemini 2 Siemens (double-deck) ----- There are 10 of these, they run on route 328 (Golders Green - Chelsea) and route 141 (London bridge - Palmers Green). These have better acceleration than the single deck Siemens Hybrids. ----- CRAP Wrightbus Volvo (double-deck) ----- These are horrid (don't confuse these with the Siemens ones that look identical to these). These buses are not proper hybrids, they are Parallel hybrids, which means they use a combination of Hybrid and conventional transmissions. Proper hybrids don't have gears as they use an electric motor, but these stupid buses have the most horrid gear-changes I have ever come across on a bus. THEY TAKE OVER A SECOND TO CHANGE GEAR, and while changing gear they loose all acceleration. THIS IS PATHETIC. This is worse than a manual gearbox. (And whats worse, there are 62 of these stupid things running on routes 12, 73, 76 & 141). They might have well not even bothered with this expensive hybrid system, and just have used Voith, who have being making gearboxes that can change gear without loss of acceleration for years. ----- Enviro 200H BAE ----- There are 5 of these runnong on route 371 (Kingston - Richmond). I have been on this, but I forgot to film it as I was feeling shaky, as before this, a security guard at Bentalls Shopping Center in Kingston had infriringed my human rights, trying to force me to delete videos on my camera (a very upsetting incident). ----- Enviro 400H (double-deck) BAE ----- There are 118 of these. The biggest fleet of hybrids in London. These are very nice and have good acceleration. they run on routes 16, 24, H91, 94, 139, 188 & 436. ----- CRAP Optare Tempo ----- Another stupid Parallel Hybrid. These have VERY bad acceleration. There are 10 of these, they run on route 380 (Lewisham - Woolwich). ----- BORIS'S BUS SIEMENS (double-deck) ----- Boris's vanity project. These 8 buses costed £10,000,000 (£1.250,000 each). These are far more expensive than a normal hybrid bus which would cost £300,000! and a normal bus double-deck bus costs around £180,000 These are very snazzy futuristic buses, which operate on route 38. ----- WRIGHTBUS HYDROGEN ----- These operate of hydrogen and run on route RV1. These are the weirdest sounding of all the hybrid buses. (note: the buses may run on routes different to the ones shown, as bus companies often do this) http://beno.org.uk
