Whistling in the Dark (Boretz-Suesse) played by Sam Lanin’s Dance Ensemble Hit of the Week 1144 78 rpm record Johnson & Shirley, American Dance Bands on Record and Film (1915 – 1942) Rustbooks Publishing, 2010, provide the following (paltry) personnel: Possibly Mannie Klein & Bunny Berrigan (trumpets); Tommy Dorsey (trombone); possibly Eddie Lang (guitar); Paul Small (vocal). Other players unknown. Recorded NYC, April, 1931. This was recorded on the “Hit of The Week” series, which were flexible records made of durium (as compared to most other records which were recorded on expensive shellac and broke if you dropped them), only recorded on one side, with a new one available at newsstands every week. Or at least until the Great Depression killed off even the company that made these comparatively inexpensive records. Image from discogs.
