Ah, pelargoniums. Most people call these plants geraniums, but they are technically pelargoniums. Three main types of pelargoniums I mention in the video are 1)zonals - most popular, grow upright, great for containers/bedding 2) Ivy geraniums - astounding in hanging baskets, cascading growth habit. 3) scented geraniums - an absolute sensation for your senses. It's the leaves in these cultivars ( NOT the flowers), that release oils in hot days to keep cool, emitting magical smells! There are cultivars now that have been bred for scents like apple, lemon, rose, I've even heard coconut! I haven't smelled that one yet... Here are the latin names for some scented geraniums in case you are interested in going on a specific hunt: Pelargonium odoratissimum - apple scented foliage Pelargonium graveolens and/or pelargonium capitatum - rose scented foliage cultivars (visuals of 'graveolens' are in the video) Pelargonium crispum - lemon scented geranium, and really crinkly foliage! Pelargonium tomentosum - peppermint scented foliage! This one is even an award winner! Geraniums are capable of overwintering inside. If you live in a lower growing zone, I highly recommend trying this, OR trying to force the plant to go dormant. I tried this trick last season and succeeded! I talk all about the process in the last portion of the video. You should try it! It is such a low maintenance experiment. Happy gardening!
