Today we’re diving deep into a true story of 1970’s satanic panic, witchcraft, the occult & my favourite topic - media hysteria. It’s the case of the Highgate Vampire, an apparition that haunted Highgate in the 1960’s and 70’s - although some claim that it never really went away. The stars of the story are David Farrant and Sean Manchester, two men with completely different ideas on what the “vampire” actually is, and how to deal with it. It was an era dominated by occult revival and Hammer Horror movies, with Christopher Lee starring as Dracula in multiple films. But deep within the overgrown and vandalised Victorian cemetery of Highgate, a real life vampire story was taking hold. Later years brought witch hunts, vampire hunts and a “feud” that seemingly carries on, despite the fact that David Farrant sadly passed away in April 2019.
