On 5 January 1978, British punk sensation the Sex Pistols played their first American gig at the Great South East Music Hall in Atlanta, Georgia. It was the first show of a tour that saw band members Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Sid Vicious play a string of old ballrooms across the southern states. With the band more dysfunctional than ever, and disputes between the band and its management reaching a climax, the ill-fated tour was marked by cancellations, with some shows being abandoned halfway through.
