Choekhor Festival, TAWANG TOURISM

Choekhor Festival is celebrated by the Monpa community of Tawang and West Kameng Dist. of Arunachal Pradesh. It is celebrated for good crop harvesting, to casts away evil spirits, to give good health and wealth to the people. It is usually done in the 7th or 8th lunar month. During this festival, the monks from the monastery will read the holy scripts. The holy books are carried by the people on their backs along with the idols of Lord Buddha, circling the entire village. During the procession, the villagers/onlookers seek blessings for good health and prosperity. The actual masses cover the whole crops fields, forest and valleys, but due to the urbanization in Tawang, the masses cover only the village that organized the festival. It is one of the biggest festival of Monpa community. --------------------------------- After @meewakching performed at @zirofestival, some of the band members and friends traveled to Tawang for sightseeing and touring. We reached late in the evening and we hold the night camping on the ground next to a college. We headed out to the Monastery early in the morning and that's where we found the elegant happening of this Festival. While taking some pictures of the kid monks and structures, We were awestruck by the large number of people gathering in the Monastery. We asked them about what was happening and that's how we came to know about the festival. We were so lucky that we came and reached on the last day of the festival. Some of our teammates headed out for Shonga - Tser Lake. As I was inclined into covering the event, I followed the whole procession with @_baro_leela_ . We were treated really well like we are at home.We had a great meal together with the community. The hospitality was so great that Tawang remains a sacred place in my heart.
