Before you begin, take a few moments to do some gentle exercises to release any tension in your body. ________________________________________ Understanding Primary Colours Primary colours: red, yellow, blue • Red + Blue = Purple • Blue + Yellow = Green • Yellow + Red = Orange ________________________________________ Before You Start Make sure you have enough space to paint comfortably. Materials You Will Need • Canvas – any size you like • Colour palette (or a plate) • Acrylic pen or marker • Acrylic paints – primary colours plus black and white • Optional: any other acrylic colours you love • Sponge • Gloves • Glass of water • Blue paper roll (kitchen roll) • A selection of art brushes (different sizes) • Plastic spray bottle ________________________________________ Step-by-Step Intuitive Painting Guide 1. Experiment with colour. Mix colours that feel right to you. Don’t overthink it — just play and enjoy. 2. Take your acrylic pen and divide the canvas into sections of different sizes. 3. With a brush, gently paint over the acrylic pen lines. 4. Paint each section in colours you like. Choose whatever your hand feels drawn to first. 5. Lightly spray a little water onto the canvas. Use the sponge to blend and soften the colours. 6. Put some paint on your fingertips. Close your eyes and place your fingers on the canvas. 7. Keep your eyes closed and move your hand freely, wherever it feels right. Don’t try to control the movement. 8. Open your eyes. With gentle movements, continue adding colour with your fingertips, softly tapping wherever you feel guided to. 9. Use the paper roll to blend areas of colour. You can lightly spray more water if needed while blending. 10. For the next layer, choose your most vibrant colours. Apply them with your fingertips, moving your hands in any direction you wish. Feel the freedom in the process. 11. If you like, add lighter tones around the edges or anywhere that feels like it needs softness or balance. 12. Prepare your glass to create a splash effect. 13. Mix acrylic paint with a little water. 14. Splash the mixture onto the canvas. 15. Use a brush to add extra lines or marks for interest and depth. 16. To finish, gently blend certain areas to bring harmony to the painting. 17. Enjoy your colourful artwork and the beautiful colours you have chosen.
