Epilepsy Research Institute featured on BBC’s The One Show

The Epilepsy Research Institute and our Founding Partners Young Epilepsy featured in a segment on BBC One’s The One Show, as part of International Epilepsy Month. In an interview filmed at our London office, the Institute’s Chief Executive Maxine Smeaton spoke to presenter Edith Bowman, who experienced epilepsy as a child, about the formation of the Institute, the promise of research and the stigma faced by people living with the condition. Young Epilepsy’s ‘Young Reps’ continued the discussion on epilepsy stigma and its impact on school and work prospects. The crew also filmed at UCL with Professor Gabriele Lignani, who presented the gene therapy research project for which he was recently awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant. This research will build on Prof Lignani’s Institute-funded fellowship project, which investigated the potential of gene therapy as a treatment for acquired intractable epilepsy. https://epilepsy-institute.org.uk/eri...
