The award event took place on Thursday, October 27th, at Gebouw-T, Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands. Already at a very young age he devotes much of his free time (and school time for that matters) to playing ‘electric’, joining several band and performing on stage all over the country. Leendert received his formal education at the Rotterdam Conservatory, studying Pop and Jazz Guitar. During these 6 years he is invited to play with many established musicians and he becomes one of the most respected and well-known players in the Dutch pop and rock scene. After his graduation (with honours) Leendert soon embarks on several European tours with well-known artists. A few years later, his old Conservatory in Rotterdam offers him a teaching position which he wholeheartedly accepted. At the present, he combines his job at the Pop Faculty in Rotterdam with frequent studio sessions, television, radio promotion and live shows with his current band Anouk. Leendert is famous for creating different sounds using all kinds of effect units and stomp boxes. As a talented amp customizer and designer, he helps many guitar and bass players in their quest for the perfect sound… From the SENA webpage: The English guitarist Steve Hackett is the winner of the Sena Performers European Guitar Award 2022. The Englishman has been one of the most innovative guitarists in the world since the early 1970s. On Thursday 27 October, the 72-year-old star guitarist will receive the prestigious oeuvre award, abbreviated SEGA, in Building-T in Bergen op Zoom. Hackett is seen as an absolute celebrity within pop and progressive rock. The Londoner became world famous in the 1970s as a guitarist for Genesis. During that period, he and keyboardist Tony Banks were the musical conscience of the band. Phil Collins has repeatedly called him one of the most talented musicians he has worked with. Hackett was already making solo records during his Genesis period. He left the band in 1977 and went on to build an impressive solo career. In 1985 he founded the successful supergroup GTR with, among others, Yes guitarist Steve Howe. Hackett released 28 albums under his own name. Last week his new live album Genesis Revisited Live: Seconds Out & More was released on which he harks back to his legendary guitar work within Genesis. In 2010, he was inducted into the prestigious Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the other members of Genesis. In 2014, the guitarist collaborated with the other Genesis members on a major BBC documentary. The Englishman says he is very pleased with the invitation to receive the award. “I am both delighted and honored to have been asked to receive the Sena European Guitar Award 2022. A true 'Musican's musician' who always captivates and continues to amaze!” Co-organizer Jean-Paul Heck approached Hackett in 2016 to accept the award. “I was invited by Steve and his wife Jo to lunch with them in the London Borough of Richmond. On that occasion I explained to him what the Sena European Guitar Award is. He was immediately delighted, but his tour schedule was so full that, partly due to the corona crisis, it took 6 years before we could actually get him.
