This week on Pilot’s Perspective, we’re looking at a fast, aggressive, and seriously eye-catching racer — the H-King Yak Steadfast. Its roots go back to the Yak-11, an advanced trainer introduced in 1947 for the Soviet Air Force. While originally designed for training, the Yak-11 also saw combat service during the Korean War and later became a popular platform for air racing thanks to its strong airframe and great performance. The Steadfast takes that heritage and turns it into a purpose-built single-seat racer. The full-scale aircraft was built in Romania in the early 2000s and, while based on the Yak-3, closely resembles the Yak-11 — making it the perfect foundation for this model, which is derived from HobbyKing’s earlier Yak-11 design. This version was inspired by RC community member Nick DeCarlis (MrSmoothie on RCGroups), who converted his Yak-11 into a Steadfast-style racer with a custom canopy and bold new colour scheme. Working closely with HobbyKing, that concept has been refined into a production-ready model. Power comes from a 6S setup using a 5020-550KV motor, 95A ESC, and 16×6 prop, delivering speeds of over 100 mph. It’s blisteringly fast, yet remains precise and predictable, with axial rolls, big loops, and huge vertical performance. The Yak Steadfast comes Plug-N-Fly, with factory-installed metal-geared servos, servoless retracts, CNC oleo struts, split flaps, and LED landing and navigation lights. Assembly is quick thanks to the low parts count and pre-assembled components. With a 1450mm wingspan, outstanding handling, and unmistakable racer looks, the H-King Yak Steadfast is a true head-turner.
