This film “body image” focuses on my research on body image, mass media, and the effect of the beauty industry on society. my video project BODY IMAGE ties together my personal journey and research on body image and body dysmorphia. This film shows the difficulty I went through in my life and how I overcame self hate and built self love on my own. Whether you're fit or not, both can greatly affect you. Being fit and unfit differs in many ways such as; body image, health, and the amount of activity each person does. Body image is defined as the subjective picture or mental image of one's own body, which greatly differs among the fit and unfit individuals. Body image has a powerful effect on all. This poses a problem for many women because the average woman is not thin; she typically has some body fat. Women are forced to believe that this the norm for body size, and that men only value women that are thin. However, this is not the case for most men, they prefer a woman with a little meat on her bones. Magazines and media makes women think that the ideal woman is super skinny and has perfect hair and skin. This is a lie to women because the girls in the magazine are retouched and photoshopped to look “perfect”. Well, nobody is perfect in this world. Just be “YOU’ because really you are beautiful. “In a world where a constant flow of media images far exceeds the number of women we could never see face to face, this abnormally thin and digitally enhanced feminine ideal has become the norm in our minds.
