1962 Oldsmobile 394 Engine and Transmission Removal for Overhaul

We're rebuilding the original 394ci (6.5l) engine on this 1962 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight. The engine had excessive oil consumption and blue smoke, but otherwise ran strong. Here, we're pulling the engine and rotohydramatic (Slim Jim) transmission as a unit. We used an engine hoist and engine stand from Harbor Freight Tools. If you're pulling a big block engine like this one, I recommend getting the largest capacity hoist and stand. Safety is the most important thing with any project. This video documents our experience, but it is not a professional recommendation. While we took numerous common-sense safety precautions, an operation like this has inherent risk. Please research and follow all appropriate safety guidelines for your project! The engine parts have been cleaned, checked, and machined while a rebuilt transmission is on order.
