Does Watching or Reading the News Stress You Out? Headline Stress Disorder is REAL!

Does watching or reading the news stress you out? Do you feel anxious, fearful, powerless, and uncertain for your future after having done so? Have trouble sleeping? Do you relentlessly watch the news, follow newsfeeds, and stay plugged into social media? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you are not alone. Fifty percent of Americans feel the same way most of the time; my opinion is that even more people may feel that way now with the non-stop pandemic virus news coverage. Dr. Steven Stosny coined the phrase 'Headline Stress Disorder' during the 2016 election season because of how many of his clients were letting the mainstream media (MSM) coverage stress them out. Yes, you were reading that correctly, we LET the media stress us out with their clickbait titles and fearmongering stories. If you have read any of my other posts on stress, you know that I am a firm believer in the fact that we CAN control our stress response most of the time, and HOW we respond to news stories is entirely in our control. It is a sad fact that we humans have some physiological disadvantages that the media leverages with their sensationalized event coverage. Our brains are hardwired with what's known as negativity bias. The result is the primitive part of our brains give more attention to anything scary or threatening. So the media bombards us with graphic coverage of everything from a Thai soccer team trapped in a flooded cave, animals dying in wildfires in Australia, to empty store shelves due to pandemic panic purchasing. When we see the images and watch or read the news stories, our overly imaginative brains can think it is real and trigger the same physiological response as if we are the ones running from the flames or fighting for our lives. Triggering the fight or flight response over and over again leads to a weakened immune system. How ironic is that? The MSM is scaring us by over-inflating issues like a viral pandemic, and if we LET it get to us, we are actually at more risk to get the virus! Studies have shown that the primary stress hormone cortisol causes a decrease in white blood cells (called lymphocytes) and also natural killer cells, which are critical for fighting all types of viral infections, from the common cold to novel c-viruses. So instead of reacting and especially overreacting to scary news stories, let's take charge of our stress responses. Right now, we all need the most accessible ways possible to take charge of reducing our stress levels. Control the quantity and quality of your media consumption. Take small positive steps to improve your stress, sleep, and overall health. Be grateful for what you have. Live in the now, not in the apocalyptic future the press tries to hypnotize you into living in. Don't allow MSM news coverage to get under your skin and stress you out and weaken your immune system. Recognize that the media has an agenda, and you don't have to buy into it! #HeadlineStressDisorder #NewsisStressful Mindfulness Challenge -    • Join Me for 30 day Mindfulness Challenge -...   Healthy Habits -    • How to Create Healthy Habits to Improve We...   https://zen12.com/a/Guide2Well ------------------------------------------------------------------ Schedule a FREE initial consultation here: https://guideposttowellness.com/services Make a one-time contribution here: https://www.paypal.me/GuidepostToWell...
