Going on your first cruise? Wondering what to pack or what not to pack? In this video we share some essentials when packing for a cruise vacation including key things you should take with you as well as the prohibited items that could be confiscated or even worse see you banned. Packing for a cruise can be tricky—overpack and your cabin feels tiny; underpack and you’re stuck with high gift shop prices on board. This video provides some of the essentials you might need and the items security will confiscate if you try to bring them on board. 🧳 WHAT TO PACK (The Essentials) Carry-on "Day One" Bag: It can take hours for your luggage to reach your room. Pack your important travel documents, swimsuit, snacks, 1 bottle of wine, and important medications in a carry-on so you can have some essential items and hit the pool immediately. Taking advantage of the quiet whilst people are still boarding the ship. Magnet Hooks: Most cabin walls are metal! Use these to hang wet swimsuits, hats, lanyards and carry bags to save space in your cabin. USB mulit charging device: Standard power strips are banned. Bring a "Cruise Approved" version to charge all your devices. Formal Wear & Theme Night Outfits: Check your itinerary for "Formal" or "White Night" events. Each ship has similar events, you can generally find out more about these on the cruise company website. Magnetic Door Decorations: A great way to identify your cabin in long, identical hallways. 🚫 WHAT NOT TO PACK (Prohibited Items) Steam Irons & Steamers: These are a major fire hazard and will be confiscated at the pier. Use the ship's laundry service or a wrinkle-release spray. Hard Liquor & Beer: Most lines only allow a specific amount of wine or champagne (usually 1x750ml bottle per person on embarkation day). Check your specific Cruise Line Prohibited Items list before leaving. Standard Extension Cords: If it has a surge protector, it won't make it past security. Illicit Drugs: Even if it is legal at your home port or for medical use, these are strictly prohibited on ships and in most international ports. Weapons of any kind: No sharp objects, pocket knives etc. Perishable food items: You can bring packaged non perishable snacks (lollies, chocolates, biscuits, chips etc). No dairy, eggs, meats, bread, sandwiches etc allowed on board Typical clothing items are going to vary depending on the destination of your cruise. These are obviously at the individuals discretion, however in this video I outline some key things that I swear by and would always recommend packing in your suitcase.
