On September 18, 1944, the second lift was flown from England to the landing zones in Holland. From Tarrant Rushton 31 glider took off for the Arnhem area. One of these was a Hamilcar glider with chalk number 903. The glider carried a 17 pounted anti-tank gun plus Morris gun tractor and 7 troops of F-Troop, 2nd Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, RA. The glider was piloted by Capt. Bernard Halsall and Sgt. Lodge. Due to engine trouble of the tug, a Halifax aircraft, the glider was released prematurely over Chilbolton field. At that time, the field was used by the 442nd Troop Carrier Group which was involved in ferrying elements of the 101st Airborne Division to the landing zone just north of Son, Holland. At Chilbolton field, the landing of the Hamilcar glider was captured on film. / airbornetroopcarrier / abreathtakingspectacle / ww2gliderpilots
