Installing an inline bathroom fan sounded simple… until it wasn’t. In this video we jump back in time to tackle one of the last big behind-the-scenes steps in our tiny bathroom remodel – the exhaust system. Instead of installing two separate bathroom fans, we decided to run both bathrooms off a single inline fan with one roof vent. Fewer holes in the roof, fewer chances for leaks, and (in theory) a quieter setup. Spoiler alert: the first fan we chose was anything BUT quiet 😆 You’ll see the full process from start to finish – cutting in the roof vent, sealing the flashing, running ductwork through the attic, connecting both bathrooms with a Y-duct, and installing a flush vent cover in the drywall. There were messy hands, questionable decisions, a few “ouch” moments, and eventually a much better (quieter!) fan. Real life DIY isn’t always perfect, but it’s always an adventure. If you’re trying to figure out how to vent two bathrooms with one fan, or you’re just curious what actually goes into a project like this, we hope this helps! WHAT WE COVER IN THIS VIDEO: • Why we chose an inline fan instead of two separate fans • Installing a roof exhaust vent in a snowy climate • Tips for working with shingles without ruining them • Sealing roof flashing the not-so-messy way • Running and connecting flexible ductwork • Using a 4-4-4 Y to combine two bathroom vents • Installing a drywall vent cover with hot mud • Lessons learned (including choosing a quieter fan!) PRODUCTS & TOOLS MENTIONED: Inline bathroom fan Roof vent with tall neck “Through the Roof” sealant Ring-shank roofing nails Flexible ducting Warm-drive clamp 4-4-4 Y duct connector Fittes drywall vent cover Hot mud / setting compound (We aren’t sponsored by any of these – just sharing what we used!)
